The roots of Cedar Hill Preparatory Academy (CHPA) run deep. The school has evolved over the years, beginning in 1993 as an educational diagnostic testing and tutoring center (previously known as Braintrain Solutions).
Ann Cole, M.Ed. – An Original Founder & Administrator of Education: Testing / Educational Plans / Curriculum
Ann grew up in Duncanville, Texas, graduating from Duncanville High School in 1973. She continued her education at Dallas Baptist College, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1977. She married her husband Peter (now retired) in 1976. While teaching elementary school in Duncanville, where she piloted the gifted education program, she completed her Master’s of Education degree (1981) through Texas Woman’s University in Supervision with an emphasis on Education of the Gifted. It was here that she met Dr. Mary Meeker, the creator of the educational Structure of Intellect (SOI) model, that changed the way she approached teaching. Ann continued studying under Dr. Meeker at the SOI Institute in Vida, Oregon, ultimately being certified at Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels and being chosen to be an SOI Associate. Continuing in the public school realm, Ann taught at the middle school level in the Midlothian I.S.D. for the next ten years, starting the gifted education program for the school district. Writing curriculum became a passion. Ann left public school teaching in 1990 to be a stay-at-home mom, choosing to homeschool her children, Daniel and Melissa. She immediately began tutoring children, and in 1993 began working with Sue Pillow. Together they created Braintrain Solutions. Over the next few years Braintrain Solutions served hundreds of students after hours and in summer programs, eventually becoming a full-fledged school, Braintrain Academy. When they decided to go through the accreditation process, the Braintrain Academy students voted to change the name of the school to Cedar Hill Preparatory Academy (CHPA). CHPA currently serves students in grades 1 – 12. Ann continues to wear many hats overseeing testing, writing educational plans and working directly with students. She also chooses the materials used with students and oversees the development of curriculum in-house.
CHPA currently functions as a private school, having full accreditation through Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) – Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (CASI). While CHPA continues to serve students with learning differences, they also serve students who are simply seeking alternative routes to an education whether that be philosophical differences or conveniences, etc.
Please feel free to learn more about CHPA’s approach to education and learning from the information presented on this website. Feel free to contact the school for additional information and/or to schedule a visit.
